Mauboy Wows Coasters

The northwest coast is on a high this morning after a fundraising concert for two severely burnt boys went right off.

Jessica Mauboy was the headline act at the gig for Spencer and Fletcher -

the five and nine-year-olds were ushered to the Ulverstone Sport & Leisure Centre by stretch limo.

More than 1200 people turned out.

Organiser Melissa Cruse says while the final tally's still being totted up,

they're aiming for around $30,000 to help with the boys' future medical expenses.

Heavy Metal Irks Residents Cradle Mountain Water staff are flushing pipes and conducting further tests at Rosebery this week in a bid to eliminate lead from the town's water supply.

Residents will have to get their water from public hydrants for at least another week.

The Tasmanian Public and Environmental Health Network describes the situation as “third world”.

West Coast Mayor Darryl Gerrity says the cause remains something of a mystery, but it's believed to be pipes rather than the water itself.

Alleged Fraudster in Dock

hobart mag court A Hobart man's facing the Magistrates Court today on multiple fraud charges.

It's alleged the 56-year-old from Sandy Bay assumed false identities

and used them to get credit from banks and utilities to the tune of more than $150,000.

E-crime Unit detectives charged the man in April after a lengthy investigation.

Julia Gillard's back in Tasmania today, the second trip here in the past month, and has announced 70 more call centre jobs for Hobart, this time in the Northern suburbs at Derwent Park.

Also on this trip, the PM's performed the official opening of a new health clinic in Hobart.

Julia Gillard's also added another 7 million dollars to the forest peace deal money, bringing the total to 100 million, and is fast-tracking the funding over 4 years instead of 15
